What They Don’t Tell You About Healing

Dear Healed Black Girl,

Here’s what they don’t tell you about healing—things get quiet.

Your phone stops ringing as much.
You’re not getting invited out like you used to.
People aren’t calling or checking in as often.
Your schedule? Light. Uncrowded. Still.

Life gets quiet.
And while you might be at peace with that, you may still feel lonely.
You may still wrestle with the silence.

Most days, you’ll embrace the quiet.
You’ll live for it. Crave it.
You’ll especially appreciate it on the days when life is busy—when your to-do list is long and you're moving nonstop.

But then there are days when the quiet feels… disconnecting.

If you don’t get outside, don’t see people, don’t interact with a cashier or barista or passerby—you can feel a bit untethered. A little too alone.

Some days, you’ll look for stimulation.
So you scroll.
And scroll.
And scroll—trying to find something. But not really knowing what you’re looking for.
And not quite finding it.

But those moments pass.

Eventually, you remember that the silence is welcomed. That you are still connected—to yourself, to others, to the world—even when you're alone.

And that it’s okay to feel lonely sometimes.

Being healed doesn’t mean you never feel these things.
It means you learn how to move through them differently.
You know how to sit with it.
How to cope.
How to gently return to your center.
To your peace.
To your balance.

Anyway... I guess I’m just rambling today.
But if you're in the quiet season too—I see you.

With love,
A fellow Healed Black Girl
